Who Killed Rollerblading?

Arlo Eisenberg at X Games

Long before I was Creative Director at Eisenberg, I had an entirely different life in Southern California. Some of you already know this, but I used to be a professional rollerblader. I moved from Dallas, Texas to Venice Beach, California in the winter of 1992. I competed in the first X Games and won a gold medal for Inline Street in the second X Games in 1996.

Inline skating was huge in the 1990s and early 2000s. Now you don’t see it as much, and it’s no longer included in X Games programming. I was featured recently in a documentary by VICE Media that attempts to answer the question, “Who Killed Rollerblading?” Earlier this month, along with my father and my girlfriend, I attended the premiere at a festival in Brooklyn, New York.

The entire documentary (it’s only about 20 minutes) is available to watch on YouTube. It’s a fascinating snapshot of action sports in the 90s and 2000s, and captures a pivotal era from my life. The documentary has already garnered over 250K views, so it appears to be striking a chord. I invite you to watch it as well, and to learn a little more about my life before Eisenberg.
